The Forum, on 14 November, built on World Rugby’s leadership in this area through its Keep Rugby Onside education initiative and the Rugby World Cup 2015 integrity programme, acclaimed by the Gambling Commission as best practice for major events. It also benefited from speakers from across rugby and sport, including the International Rugby Players’ Association, International Olympic Committee, United Nations, Interpol, Nevada Gaming Control Board, Australian Federal Police, Gambling Commission, International Cricket Council, Tennis Integrity Unit, British Horseracing Authority, The inaugural World Rugby Integrity Forum brought together the global leaders in sports integrity and governance for a one-day conference during the World Rugby Conference and Exhibition in London. WORLD RUGBY INTEGRITY FORUMthe Football Association, the Ethics Committee of the Deutscher Fussball-Bund, Transparency International and the betting industry, among others. The key theme which resonated with unions and other sporting bodies in attendance was that the threat to sport from corrupt practices is not isolated to one sport, league or country, but potentially threatens any sport which does not put in place appropriate measures. These include, importantly, educating participants, monitoring betting and providing safe and accessible reporting mechanisms. Underpinning these initiatives is the need to share intelligence and information both between sporting bodies, law enforcement and regulators but also between sporting bodies themselves. Potential corrupters may seek to move between sports, leagues and countries as regulatory or criminal regimes become more challenging or they perceive opportunities elsewhere. In that respect one of the benefits of the Forum was the platform it provided for speakers and attendees from across sport to strengthen their ability to share best practice and information not just during the event but to work collaboratively on an ongoing basis for the protection of all sport.World Rugby’s Keep Rugby Onside programme, available online at worldrugby.org/integrity, continues to be the central educational resource both for World Rugby and unions. As of January 2017, 11,307 rugby players, coaches, match officials, administrators and other stakeholders have completed the online course.11,307 people have completed World Rugby’s Keep Rugby Onside online courseEDUCATE | INTEGRITYDISCIPLINE 74 WORLD RUGBY YEAR IN REVIEW 2016
